Dara: Dara, a middle-aged Malay unmarried woman, has to care for her ailing mother. Amidst her daily routines and small pockets of private moments, she encounters another woman just like her.
Directed by: Christal Gallyot (Christal is a Filipina-Eurasian filmmaker whose works explore facets of identity– with a specific focus on moral implications and challenges faced by marginalised working class women through a realist lens. Christal’s first short film, Sometimes You Go Places had its World Premiere in Beijing International Short Film Festival in 2023. Subsequently, two of her short films, BEFORE YOU GO and Full Shift were screened locally at Short Circuit 7 and Singapore Shorts’24, respectively.)
Written & Cinematography by: Renny Nadira (Renny Nadira is a filmmaker dedicated to capturing characters in their most authentic selves through a blend of visual and auditory storytelling. She served as the Cinematographer and Sound Designer for the short film, ‘Sometimes You Go Places’, which premiered at the Beijing International Short Film Festival, and ‘Full Shift’, which was selected for Singapore Shorts ’24. Whether she’s creating a documentary, narrative or experimental project, she believes that her art should be liberating — by embracing the true essence of human experience without reservation.)
